Soccer Ministry: Reaching Youth and Children for Christ

Hope Lutheran Evangelical Church is developing a new youth and children’s soccer outreach ministry on the church land recently purchased directly behind the church. This new property provides a valuable opportunity for the church to serve children, teenagers, families, and young people in the surrounding community through sports, relationships, education, and the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

Our Vision

Our vision is to use soccer as a bridge between the church and the community. Many children and young people enjoy playing soccer, but not all have a safe, accessible place where they can gather, develop their abilities, build friendships, and hear about God’s love.

Hope Lutheran Evangelical Church wants to make the newly purchased land a safe and welcoming place where children and youth can play soccer, learn positive values, develop leadership skills, and experience Christian fellowship.

The goal is not simply to create a soccer field. The goal is to create a ministry environment where relationships can be built and the Gospel can be shared.

How the Soccer Ministry Will Work

The church plans to organize regular soccer activities for children and youth in the community, including:

  • Weekly soccer practices and recreational games
  • Youth soccer teams and tournaments
  • Activities for children and teenagers from nearby villages
  • Christian character and leadership development
  • Short Bible lessons and devotions connected with sports activities
  • Prayer and encouragement for young people and their families
  • Special community soccer events
  • Opportunities for Christian volunteers and church members to mentor youth
  • Outreach activities connected with English education, computer classes, and other Hope Church programs

The soccer ministry can become an important first point of contact for families who may not yet know Hope Lutheran Evangelical Church.

Sports as a Bridge for the Gospel

Soccer gives the church an opportunity to build relationships naturally. A young person may first come to the church land because they want to play soccer. Over time, they can develop friendships with Christian leaders and other young people.

Through these relationships, the church can demonstrate Christian love and share the message of Jesus Christ.

The ministry will seek to teach values such as:

Teamwork – Respect – Discipline – Honesty – Forgiveness – Service – Responsibility – Compassion

These values provide opportunities to connect everyday experiences on the soccer field with biblical teaching.

For example, when players learn to forgive one another after a disagreement, the leaders can teach about God’s forgiveness. When players learn to serve their teammates, leaders can explain Christian service. When players experience disappointment or failure, they can learn about perseverance, hope, and God’s grace.

A Safe Place for Children and Youth

The new land behind the church can become more than a sports field. It can become a community gathering place where children and young people can safely spend their time.

Hope Lutheran Evangelical Church desires to provide an environment where young people can:

  • Play and exercise safely
  • Make healthy friendships
  • Receive positive adult mentorship
  • Develop teamwork and leadership skills
  • Learn English and other practical skills
  • Hear God’s Word
  • Participate in church activities
  • Discover their gifts and abilities
  • Grow spiritually and socially

This is particularly important because young people need positive places and positive relationships where they can grow.

Connecting Soccer with the Wider Ministry

The soccer outreach will work together with Hope Lutheran Evangelical Church’s other community ministries.

For example, a young person may first come to the church through soccer. Later, they may participate in:

Soccer → Friendship → English Class → Bible Study → Youth Ministry → Church Fellowship → Discipleship

In this way, sports become a doorway into a broader ministry of Gospel proclamation and community development.

The church can also invite parents and families to special events, community programs, church celebrations, and outreach activities.

Future Development

As resources become available, Hope Lutheran Evangelical Church hopes to develop the property gradually with facilities such as:

  • A safe soccer field
  • Basic lighting for evening activities
  • Rest and meeting areas
  • Drinking water and sanitation facilities
  • Storage for sports equipment
  • Space for youth gatherings
  • Areas for children’s activities
  • A small training or classroom area

The development will be based on the church’s available resources and ministry needs rather than attempting to complete everything at once.

Our Gospel Purpose

The heart of this ministry is Jesus Christ.

Hope Lutheran Evangelical Church believes that children and young people are not only the future of the community—they are people whom God loves and whom the church is called to serve today.

Jesus said:

“Let the little children come to me and do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of heaven.”
— Matthew 19:14

Through soccer, Hope Lutheran Evangelical Church desires to go where young people are, build relationships with them, serve them with love, and introduce them to Jesus Christ.

Our prayer is that the new land behind the church will become a place filled with joy, friendship, learning, prayer, discipleship, and the Gospel.

The soccer field may be the place where a child first enters the church’s ministry, but our ultimate hope is that each young person will encounter the love of Christ and grow into a life of faith, service, and leadership.

Ministry Goal

“Using soccer to build relationships, develop young people, serve the community, and share the Gospel of Jesus Christ.”

Hope Lutheran Evangelical Church sees this ministry as an investment not simply in a field, but in the lives of children, youth, families, and the future of the community.
