Another Soul Saved—Teen Baptism in the Lutheran Church

Baptism is a significant sacrament in the Lutheran Church, symbolizing God’s grace, forgiveness, and the individual’s welcome into the Christian community. While many Lutherans are baptized as infants, some teenagers may choose baptism as a personal affirmation of faith or, if not baptized earlier.

A teen baptism in the Lutheran tradition is a deeply spiritual and communal event. This ceremony took
place during our Sunday worship service this past Sunday, emphasizing its importance as part of the congregational life. Our newest member made a public confession of faith and commitment to Christ. Her name is Tuon Bai Foeun.

While Pastor Ravy read from scripture about baptism on this day, he also asked her to renounce sin and confess her faith in God, reflecting her personal decision to follow Christ.

Pastor Ravy blessed the water, a sign of cleansing and renewal, and sprinkled it over her head, saying, “I baptize you in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.” This act signified the washing away of sin and the beginning of a new life in Christ.

Pastor Ravy prayed for the Holy Spirit to guide and strengthen Tuon, and he marked her forehead with
the sign of the cross, saying, “You are sealed by the Holy Spirit and marked with the cross of Christ
forever.” She was then presented with a ribbon cross bookmark for her new bible forthcoming.

The church body also played a vital role in this ceremony, offering prayers and promises of support.
This highlighted the communal aspect of faith, as she is not just entering into a relationship with God
but also into a spiritual family.

A baptism is a profound milestone at this age, as it signifies their own choice to live a life of faith.
