Reflect on the way in which Jesus was tempted and overcame the devil in the wilderness in Matthew 4:1-11. What principles for overcoming sin and temptation in your own life can you draw from this story?
In this scripture, the principle for overcoming sin and temptation is to take heed to God’s Word. From this passage, we can learn the lessons of Jesus’ temptation. We must worship one God. The Word of God, spoken in faith in the name of Jesus, has incredible power to overcome seemingly insurmountable obstacles. As Isaiah said that “For as the rain and the snow come down from heaven and do not return there, but water the earth, making it bring forth and sprout, giving seed to the sower and bread to the eater, so shall my word be that goes out from my mouth; it shall not return to me empty, but it shall accomplish that which I purpose, and shall succeed in the thing for which I sent it.” Isaiah 55:10-11 ESV.
How does knowing that Jesus never succumbed to temptation help you in your moment of weakness?
We live in a sinful world, we always live with fear. Temptation can be a serious problem if its long-term consequences lead to loss of work, family, health, livelihood, or relationships. If we have a strong desire to act in a way that we know is not good for our health or well-being and we are suffering from these feelings, a conversation with a psychologist may help. Through the blood of Jesus Christ and His resurrection, our weakness was restored and safe before Him.
In what sense is his victory over the devil your victory? And how can you live in light of this reality?
The Lord has dealt bountifully with us. He has, in Christ Jesus, delivered us from sin and death. When Jesus returns, by God’s grace through faith in Jesus, we will be raised from death as He was raised. Thus, through the blood of Jesus, we are victorious over the devil. Jesus kept his integrity by standing firmly against everything Satan threw at him. He was tempted to know who we are, so we can understand what is happening to us. He is also a powerful example of how to overcome the temptations and challenges that come to us. Anyway, we can live and stop our daily life, stop doing the same every day, spend more time with others, spend more time with God, he wants us to be happy and live life as God intended.
Shalom
